Jazz Power Initiative: Seasonal Production Associate/Coordinator

Description of Organization: Jazz Power Initiative is an uptown New York City based non-profit 501(c)3 organization specializing in jazz music and theater education for youth and adults and producing community concerts involving music and dance.

Job Description: The Seasonal Production Coordinator will provide technical expertise and team leadership for all the organization’s sound, media, production and stage lighting related to live performances and streams. This position requires flexibility of schedule to adjust to the organization’s needs, with a wide variety of events that occur during the week and on weekends. This role ensures that all logistical and technical aspects of the program’s live production/audio and video production/assisting are coordinated. This role ensures there are procedures, equipment setup, technology guidance and processes in place to ensure events can display scheduled content for planned activities. The season runs from February 1, 2025 through July 31st, 2025 with the possibility of permanent hire to follow.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Must be 21 years or older with an associate degree preferred.
3+ years experience in live production; jazz music preferred.
Strong team player.
3 years experience in live and recording mixing audio processing such as EQ, effects, gates, compression, etc.
Proficiency and knowledge of Mac platform, Microsoft Office and other various software programs preferred.
Strong communication and leadership skills along with appreciation for the multicultural community JPI serves.
Great customer service attitude.
Ability to work well independently and collaboratively.
Additional Assets
Knowledge of Spanish language is a plus.
Knowledge of Northern Manhattan communities of Washington Heights, Harlem and Inwood is a plus.

Timing/Reporting:
Report to Eli Yamin, Managing and Artistic Director
In person in the office or on event sites. 10-20hrs/week.
Compensation:
Consultant position: $21-$24/hr

Jazz Power Initiative: Music Intern 2024-25

Description of Organization: Jazz Power Initiative is an uptown New York City based non-profit 501(c)3 organization specializing in jazz music and theater education for youth and adults and producing community concerts involving music and dance.   

Job Description: This paid internship will directly support music preparation and library management for all programs related to Jazz Power Initiative’s youth music education and community programs. The intern will work directly with Jazz Power Initiative’s co-founder and Managing and Artistic Director, Dr. Eli Yamin. This internship will give the intern a close up view of a thriving non profit company serving upper Manhattan and all the hats one wears when running such an organization. The intern will be involved primarily in music preparation activities, however, other opportunities will be available depending on strengths and interests of the intern and evolving needs of the organization.

Qualifications: 

  • Available for work 1x week in JPI’s uptown office and additional hours remotely as needed.
  • Available immediately through June, 2025.
  • Organized and self-motivated demonstrating problem solving and positive energy.
  • Knowledge of basic jazz arranging techniques, lead sheet preparation, transcription,  Finale notation software.
  • Additional fluency in office software such as Dropbox, MS Office and Google.
  • Having a passion for jazz music is preferred.

Timing/Reporting:

Report to Eli Yamin, Managing and Artistic Director

In person in office: One day a week on a regular basis. Other hours remotely and on site as needed. 6-12 hours/week.

Compensation:

Consultant position: $15-18/hr
