Jazz Power Initiative — Music Intern (Paid), 2026

About JPI
Jazz Power Initiative is an uptown NYC nonprofit bringing jazz music, theater, and dance to youth and adults through education programs and community concerts.

The Role
Join our small, creative team and work directly with co-founder and Managing & Artistic Director, Dr. Eli Yamin. You’ll help prepare music and curriculum, support rehearsals and performances, and get hands-on experience in how a thriving community arts nonprofit runs.

What you’ll do
– Prepare charts: lead sheets, basic arrangements, parts, and transcriptions
– Organize the music library and education materials across programs
– Support rehearsals and classes; coach students and make music with them
– Assist with concert production: setup, breakdown, and equipment transport
– Pitch in on projects based on your strengths and evolving needs

Schedule and location
– January–December 2026
– ~20 hours/week: 2–3 days in-person at our uptown office/teaching studio, plus some remote hours
– Evening and Saturday availability is often required

You are
– A recent or soon-to-be college grad musician with a passion for jazz
– Organized, reliable, and proactive with a positive, problem-solving mindset
– Comfortable with notation and arranging basics (Finale, Dorico, or MuseScore)
– Able to create clean lead sheets and do basic transcription
– Familiar with Dropbox and Google or Microsoft Office tools
– Ready to help with setup and moving equipment as needed

Compensation and reporting
– Consultant role at $18–$20 per hour
– Reports to Dr. Eli Yamin, Managing & Artistic Director
