Jazz Power Initiative celebrates Women’s History Month throughout March 2023. Nikara Warren joins JPI’s acclaimed monthly concert series, Intergenerational Jazz Power Jam with performances from Ms. Warren’s debut album, “Scenes From Black Wall Street,” and Jazz Power’s 2023 Community Artist-in-Residence, Annette A. Aguilar leads a series of Uptown community workshops and performances.

Dr. E Digs Deep – blues fruits bring sweet fruits with Eli “Dr. E” Yamin and his quartet performing Willie Dixon, Elizabeth Cotten, Elvis Presley, Mahalia Jackson and Eli Yamin with Eli Yamin, piano and voice, Zaid Nasser, alto saxophone, Elias Bailey, bass, David F. Gibson, drums and special guests.

Jazz Power Initiative’s summer Jazz Power Institute for artists and educators is back live and in person at Lehman College, City University of New York, in the Bronx Wednesday, July 6 and Thursday, July 7, 2022, from 10 AM to 5 PM. Intergenerational Jazz Power Jam “Charles Mingus 100th Birthday Celebration”

Celebrate with us during Jazz Appreciation Month as we honor the late Charles Mingus’s 100th birthday with performances of his compositions, including his rarely performed extended work “Meditations on Integration,” as well as intergenerational interpretations of his famed “Fables of Faubus” and “Goodbye Porkpie Hat.” As an inventive composer, virtuosic bassist, and groundbreaking band leader, Charles Mingus continues to inspire generations of musicians.
