It’s been a tough week in New York, New Orleans and other places in the U.S. and around the globe. For me, having JazzPowerON is a lifeline to positivity in the face of the unknown. This week we received an email from one of the parents in our youth program:

“I would like to thank you guys for the amazing online class that you did on Wednesday. My son Jovani enjoyed it so much and I am very thankful because you made him really happy because we are facing a tough time now as a family. My husband is a firefighter and tested positive to COVID19 last week and Jovani was really sad, but on Wednesday he was really happy when I told him to get ready because he was going to have a jazz class.”

This is why we must keep JazzPowerON. Thank you for joining us!

@JazzPowerON YOUTH

Last week we had one class for returning Jazz Power Youth. This week we had two classes engaging students in singing, theatre and movement. Here’s a 30 second peek guided by master teacher Mickey Davidson grooving to the sounds of Nat King Cole! Feel free to join in.

@JazzPowerON INTERGENERATIONAL JAZZ JAM

Our featured INTERGENERATIONAL JAZZ JAM this week is an uplifting evergreen titled “I’ve Never Been In Love”, composed by Frank Loesser, and performed by award winning baritone saxophonist Claire Daly, with trombonist James Burton, bassist Paul Beaudry, drummer Dwayne “Cook” Broadnax, and pianist Eli Yamin with audio recording by Jeff Jones “The Jedi Master”. Produced by JPI.

@JazzPowerON INSPIRATION

This week’s INSPIRATION is the “Empress of the Blues” Bessie Smith. We are inspired by her courage, strength, and resourcefulness as a songwriter, businesswoman and earth shaking performer. Enjoy this 1929 film short featuring Bessie Smith performing the W.C. Handy Classic “Saint Louis Blues.”
